SCHOPPER SHOW!

Kristina A. Schopper, Director of L.I.C. arts organization the Space, has been supporting local artists for ten years, tirelessly organizing and promoting the efforts of the community she's taken under her wing. She's asked for little in return, primarily insisting that the artists she supports also support each other. As a result, she has helped to grow a thriving group of painters, sculptors, photographers, and performers. Throughout her life as an administrator, she has made sure to maintain herself as the artist she was when this all began. I'm not sure where she found the energy, but she kept painting, developing the body of work in escap: works by Kristina A. Schopper.

This Friday, August 7th at 7:00, escap will open with a two-hour reception at the Space's Fardom Gallery, where Ms. Schopper is showing selected paintings. At 9:00, the party will move to the Space's warehouse property, where the organization's artist studios have been temporarily transformed into a generous showcase of Schopper's past work. Her paintings are highly tactile, vivid atmospheres in color and form, brimming over with as much personality as their lively creator. Now would be a good time to introduce yourself to this grassroots queen; one day you're going to want to say "I met her."

More information, as well as directions to the properties, are at the Space's website.
